Yes, because the first place terrorists will think of holding the next Jihad will be through conversations on Facebook...
What kind of criminals do they plan on catching with monitoring these types of communications? At one end of the scale you have the people who want to steal money, cars and drugs, who are more interested in just getting on with the job in real life. And then there's the extremists, terrorists etc, who, as said above, is not going create an event on Facebook to start the next potential bombing etc.
Don't get me started on debates that involve Big Brother like tendencies ;)
