Ofcom have fined 30 local radio stations, including Exeter's Gemini FM, a total £1.11m over unfair conduct in a listener competition. The fine is the highest total penalty to be imposed for the broadcast of radio content in breach of the Broadcasting Code.
Programme makers purposely put text entrants to air with incorrect answers to prevent the prize being won too soon. As a result, listeners who paid to enter the competition on these occasions had no chance of winning.
